What services do they provide now that you may or may not necessarily need now, but may need in the future. These additional services that your organization may need to grow into, can easily and efficiently be used later.
- Position for Growth: Another key element to consider is geographic reach. Providers that have geographic diversity and can support customers in various locations offer greater flexibility. The ability to scale now or in the future can be crucial to long-term success. Likewise, the openness for the vendor to be flexible to your needs and understand your business is essential.
- Prioritize Privacy: Privacy is one of the biggest issues facing both vendors and MSPs today. Businesses should always investigate an MSP’s privacy protocols prior to signing any contract. How will a provider handle something like natural disaster recovery? Does the provider have a clear backup plan? How does the vendor address use of client logos or references? Complete transparency is essential.
- Security in the Cloud: Moving solutions from an internal environment to an external cloud-based solution has many implications for compliance, including the need to document and agree in writing what the obligations of the service provider will be. Additionally, the need to ensure that the cloud provider will support any forensic investigation you might be subjected to. No matter what you outsource, the liability for payment compliance remains yours.
- Ask for help: Use references from other companies or business associates to help evaluate the vendor. Also, often you can contact analyst or reports about the vendor.
